To Value Time

(Written 18 Jan 2015)

Woke up to a white haze surrounding us. There is nothing in sight, other than the rooftop of the house adjacent to us. It is very reminiscent of days in the Smokey Mountains when the mountains would disappear within a class period.

The last few days have been a whirlwind. At times it is remarkable to me that we are already so far into the first month. I want time to move at the pace of this quaint Spanish town, simultaneously it is rushing to keep up with the societies that ‘value’ time.

It is interesting to say one values time, because how can one value something so intrinsically invented by man. They do not say they value the moments that make up time, the simple intricacies and interactions of time, rather, they value time itself. They value the innate challenge of humanity that tries to rationalize God, and constrain his working into something that is as near tangible as they can make it. God did not create – he is creating, God did not become – he exists. Thus, with all the things that change around us, rather than seeking them as God’s every changing masterpiece, we constrain them to time. I can not even write about such things without referencing time as my ‘i-n-g’ and my ‘e-d’ endings give away my own humanity.

Yet, in humanity, we are made in the image of and by the hands of God. In this identity, to some capacity, I can ponder the white haze before me, and have a glimpse into the eyes of God. Wherever we are – in whatever time we live – God sees that moment in time as a sole identity of the individual, and anything before or behind as a white haze.
